FAQs
How and when can we have sessions?
Sessions can be weekly, fortnightly or ad-hoc for as many or as few sessions as you’d like. We can speak online or in-person in Beeston or Aspley. Look at Services & Prices for details.
Can you work with me?
I am qualified to work with anyone aged 16 or over, and I have experience working with adults aged from 20 to 62. I've worked with clients with many different difficulties.
Will this really help me?
Counselling and therapy can help everyone because I adapt it to suit you. You can see if we’re a good fit and whether therapy or counselling is right for you with a free, no obligation first session.
What happens in a first session?
The first session is about getting a feel for how we might work together, understanding your situation and working out what you want to change. I’ll ask you a few questions and I may write down some basic notes. It’s okay if there’s any questions you don’t want to answer right then - we’ve only just met after all. I may tell you a bit about myself and you can ask any questions you may have for me. After the session, I’ll email you all the info you need for future sessions so you can decide whether you want to go ahead.
If I’m not the right therapist for you or you think counselling or therapy might not be what you need, we can explore what your alternative options might be.
Are sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is really important for feeling comfortable in therapy, so I always follow the BACP ethical guidelines. There are just a few, rare cases where I may disclose specific information:
- If you may cause serious harm to yourself or others
- If a child or vulnerable adult is at risk of harm
- If there’s a potential threat to national security or drug trafficking
- If I’m legally required to by the police or a court of law
- If you give consent to share information
- Anonymously (without your name) as part of supervision - a requirement of all BACP therapists to ensure we are working ethically
Wherever possible, I will try to discuss this with you before breaking confidentiality.
